Stroud Festival - about us!

Stroud Festival is one of the oldest festival organisations in the country, bringing the best of art, music, poetry, drama and dance to Stroud and the Five Valleys since 1946.

In its earlier years Stroud Festival gained a national and even international reputation for the calibre of its events, sponsoring a poetry Competition in the 1960s and 70s which drew more than 900 entries from over 35 different countries!

Now the focus is more local – encouraging home-grown talent, involving children and young people in the arts, and bringing some well- known performers to Stroud so that we can enjoy world class performances on our doorstep.

As well as holding our own Festival Events each year, the charity distributes funds on behalf of the Margaret and Netlam Bigg Trust – local patrons of the arts whose legacy was a bequest to promote education in the arts within the District of Stroud.

(For information on Grants see the Grants page)

Many local arts organisations have started with the help of funds from this Trust and we continue to support new ventures and even new festivals, which then go on to be independent. We launched the first Book Festival in 2016 which now runs separately, with its own place in the festivals calendar. (see www.stroudbookfestival.org.uk  for latest details)

We are always keen to see new faces at our committee meetings and on our team of dedicated volunteers.  If you are interested in helping to promote the arts in Stroud and would like to come to a meeting to see what we are about please contact Rick Vick, Festival Organiser E. info@stroudfestival.org

We particularly need people with marketing and social media skills at the moment to help us spread the word.
