Stroud Festival - about us!

Stroud Festival is one of the oldest festival organisations in the country, bringing the best of art, music, poetry and drama to Stroud and the Five Valleys since 1946.

In its earlier years Stroud Festival gained a national and even international reputation for the calibre of its events, sponsoring a poetry Competition in the 1960s and 70s which drew more than 900 entries from over 35 different countries!

As well as holding its own annual celebration of the arts, the charity distributes funds on behalf of the Margaret and Netlam Bigg Trust – local patrons of the arts whose legacy was a bequest to promote education in the arts within the District of Stroud.

Many local arts organisations have started with the help of funds from this Trust and we continue to support new ventures and even new festivals, which then go on to be self sufficient. The first Stroud Book Festival was launched in 2016 by Stroud Festival and now runs independently, with its own place in the festivals calendar.

We are always keen to see new faces at our committee meetings and on our team of dedicated volunteers.  If you are interested in coming to a meeting to see what we are about please contact Rick Vick info@stroudfestival.org   We particularly need people with marketing and social media skills at the moment.

Our own calendar of events includes Ballet, Opera, Art Exhibitions – and this year the first Children’s Festival in July. For a full programme see the Festivals Page
